Rome II is still unplayable in sieges and by the looks of things nothing's going to change in later patches. for crying out loud, in its current form IT'S PLAYABLE. Sometimes I wonder whether I'm the only one who actually enjoys Empire. While both are Warscape, they're different as hell. That's an interesting comparison you have there lad. ETW is a buggy mess, but it's such a nice buggy mess, there are so many things to play around with, it is one of the best TW for role-playing, imo. The three government systems, ministers and elections provided for a great way of depicting "internal politics", much better than Rome II one. Having a revolution and turning into a Republic by turn 3, gaining the everlasting hatred of every European monarch, just to kick their butt was great. Definitely ETW, after all, the TW game that allows me to take a 6th rate frigate, call it Surprise and with it (and a crapton of micro) take a Spanish Galleon with twice our men and twice our guns in an epic one on one duel, has already made my day.Įmpire really has the fun and immersion factor on his side, despite all the bugs it can still provide for awesome experiences.I like both of them, both have things I enjoy or find interesting.More of the things that ETW introduced actually worked and were fun, while very few of Rome II novelties work or are fun, so I'd lean towards ETW.Rome II, of course, but I think ETW has better aesthetic, and everything comes together to create immersion.ETW was the first game on the new engine, it was the first game focused on non melee combat and gunpowder, it was a bold move, Rome II had to be the sequel/remake of the most beloved and iconic game in the series, Rome II had the biggest shoes to fill, and it has proven to have small feet, too small.I think Rome II AI is better and more sophisticated, but it's bugged in a more debilitating manner, at the end of the day ETW vanilla AI is the only TW AI that ever managed to bankrupt me and Rome II AI is the only one who has ever managed to build itself into starvation.I cannot speak of the release, as I did not experience ETW's one, nor the hype before it.
#NAPOLEON VS EMPIRE TOTAL WAR MAP PC#
Right now I prefer ETW, believe it or not, but with vanilla ETW in its current state I have had loads of fun (226 hours, all in vanilla), granted, I only got it when it was completely patched, I didn't have a PC capable to run it when it came out. New features such as naval battle, theatres, revolutions, etc., really add to the gameplay, contrary to Rome 2.īoth, but maybe XVIIth to XIXth centuries slightly more because I've spent a lot of time to search and read documents to prepare mod, and now I've a better knowledge of this era than Rome 2 one.Įmpire. Wich game had better implemented new features?Įmpire, despite its flaws.particularly when focusing marketing on such feature)Įmpire.
Rome 2 (5 years after Empire, it was the least that CA can do.
